In 1992, Mark Zingarelli, a resident of Stanwood, Washington
made a very startling discovery. Creationists had taken over
his public school district and had invited Institute for
Creation Research adjunct faculty member Donald Chittick to
speak to local high school students. Donald Chittick's lecture
set into motion a series of events that eventually led to the
ouster of a school board member in the Stanwood school
district.
The story you are about to read is Mark Zingarelli's true account
of what happened when he and his wife Kate decided to take on
the Stanwood schoolboard. After the legal arm of Mother Jones
Magazine thoroughly fact-checked Mark's account and verified his
story, they ran it as a front page feature of their March/April
1994 issue.
This copyrighted story is presented exclusively here with
permission from Mother Jones and Mark Zingarelli. It should
also be noted that Mark is both the author AND the illustrator
of this account.
